Constructing your thesis can be daunting and frustrating. Participate in our training sessions and become proficient at searching for literature, creating accurate citations and managing your references.

Thesis Preparation: an Introduction

Familiarize yourself with the necessary tools and knowledge for formulating your scientific work in the 90-minute course. Topics include:


  • structuring references
  • creating accurate citations
  • professional document management practices


We will discuss which requirements you need to have and standards to observe. Also offered, are practical tips with using bibliographic software, learning organisation skills and time management techniques.


Our goal is to help you develop the necessary adeptness for creating your thesis. The course is available to all students whose final work is due soon. We encourage you to combine this training with the 'Tips and Tricks for Your Thesis' presentation.

'Tips and Tricks' for Your Thesis

The 90-minute presentation will illustrate how to develop a topic and answer the following questions:


  • How do I find what I need?
  • Which resources does the library have?
  • Where can I find a particular journal article?


Also, we examine the different resources available to you:

  • databases
  • eBooks and eJournals
  • OPAC-library catalogue and interlibrary loan


The course is open to all students who have an interest in searching for literature for their thesis or semester papers.

Managing your References with Citavi

Citavi supports the collection, evaluation and management of your references. You will save time because Citavi recognises books via ISBN-Check, collects references by using Citavi Picker and automatically builds the bibliography.


We will show you how you can get the most out of the options from the range of functions available in the program.

Document Preparation with LaTeX

In 3 hours you will be able to familiarise yourself with LaTeX, which is based on the open-source document processor LyX and uses a simple graphical user interface. The course includes:


  • learning the basics for formatting text for scientific work
  • using the formula editor
  • designing tables
  • formatting footnotes and a bibliography


Target Group: predominately engineering students, those who are looking for professional tools for formulating text with tables and who are working on their final paper.
